St. Tammany Parish Receives National Award

When speaking to new home buyers and buyers who are located out of state and relocating to Southeast Louisiana for employment or other reasons, there is much to say about living and working in St. Tammany Parish.  The parish itself took a giant leap forward after Hurricane Katrina when the exodus of the Southshore began and people began coming across the lake to look for a place to live and employment.  Since that time, the parish has grown exponentially in a good way, developing and building new shopping and dining structures as well as new commercial, retail, and small business venues.  The St. Tammany Parish Economic Development Foundation has tirelessly solicited and brought new business to the state, and in recent years, the I-12 corridor was named the fastest growing development are in Southeast Louisiana.  Multiple school districts across St. Tammany Parish specifically the Madisonville school district continuously ranks in the top rated schools in the state, so families moving into Louisiana are constantly looking to relocate to the Northshore for that reason as well.

For these and many more reasons, St. Tammany Parish is an excellent, above average place to buy a house and raiseentrepreneurial awards a family.  The parish received recognition for these accomplishments recently when it received the 2014 National Entrepreneurial American Community Award awarded by Partners for Livable Communities in Washington, D.C.  St. Tammany Parish as a member of the Partners for Livable Communities is part of a national nonprofit organization working to restore and renew its local community. The organization has over thirty years of experience in solving community problems by providing information, leadership and guidance that help communities help themselves.

“Partners for Livable Communities gives the award each year to recognize innovative problem solving, civic capacity building, vision and commitment, and creative approaches to addressing community needs, Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish president said. “To me, that’s what St. Tammany is.”

The factors and projects that qualified St. Tammany Parish for the award were the amount of initiatives taken by the parish government regarding entrepreneurial projects.  Some of these included the Lake Pontchartrain fishing pier in Slidell, Louisiana which was renovated using pieces of the I-10 twin spans which were destroyed during Hurricane Katrina, the Tammany Trace 20th anniversary, updates, and expansion plans, and the privatization of the Southeast Louisiana Hospital and Maritime pilots Institute in Covington, Louisiana.
